EYE to EYE
Portraits that celebrate the presence, character, and enduring mystique of the world's apex predator.
"The moments that stay with us are not always the dramatic ones, but those that reveal the true character of an animal when it is wild and free. It is in the quiet pauses, the watchful gaze, and the moments of stillness that we find a deeper connection with these extraordinary predators in their natural world."
— Alex Wood
There is no shortage of photographs of lions. The challenge lies in creating one that feels different—an image that conveys their presence, character, and quiet authority. In the vast landscapes of the Serengeti, that often comes down to one thing: perspective.
Lions of the Serengeti is the story behind that pursuit, exploring how patience, positioning, and a fresh perspective can transform an iconic subject into something truly unforgettable.

Story Behind The Image
Shot from below, the angle transforms the boulder into something closer to architecture than landscape — a plinth rather than a rock, built for exactly this purpose. Wind moves through his mane, his paws rest firm at the edge, and the composition carries the weight of a monument rather than a sighting. He is one of the Golden Boys, a coalition that has come to define this stretch of the Serengeti, and that permanence is what I wanted the image to hold — not a lion passing through a moment, but one standing precisely where he was always meant to be.
