These horses are said to be one of the oldest breeds in the world, and when you watch them move, you believe it. I caught these three coming through the shallows at full pace, throwing up sheets of water that lit up before they even reached me. There's nothing performed about it — this is just what happens when the marsh opens up in front of them and they run. I shot it low and close to put the viewer directly in their path, because a moment like this doesn't repeat itself. You get one frame, or you get nothing.

Two mares, standing close on the beach, one resting her head just behind the other's ear. Unlike the stallions, there's no negotiation happening here — this is simple, quiet affection, the kind you see constantly once you spend enough time with these bands. I shot it tight against a flat, featureless sky so nothing would compete with that closeness. It's the calmest image in the collection, and I think that's what makes it valuable — proof that the story of these horses isn't only told in motion.

Four horses coming through the shallows at full gallop, water breaking around them in every direction. I wanted this one to feel unfiltered — no single hero horse, just the raw force of the group moving together. I shot it low, almost at water level, so the viewer isn't watching from a safe distance but standing directly in their path. It's the most physical print in the series, and at scale, it puts you right back in that water with me.

Story Behind The Image
By the time I took this, the light was slowly breaking through the haze. The sky sitting low over the water, and the horses looked like they were rising out of it rather than running through it. Their reflections doubled them until it got hard to tell where the horse ended and the marsh began. I think of this as the most atmospheric print in the series.
