A single Icelandic horse, small against a mountain range dissolving into weather, mane thrown sideways by wind that shows no sign of relenting. She's mid-stride, muscles gathered as though bracing rather than simply moving, and the storm behind her isn't backdrop so much as the very thing shaping her posture. Icelandic horses have survived centuries of exactly this — isolation, volcanic terrain, weather with no patience for the delicate. What's captured here isn't an animal caught in bad conditions. It's an animal built entirely for them, unbothered by a sky that would stop most things in their tracks.
All prints are produced with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle FineArt paper for museum-grade longevity and exceptional colour accuracy. Standard presentation includes a white window mount, a dark tulipwood frame, and anti-reflective (AR) glass. If you require a different format or finish, please get in touch via the enquiry form.

Front hooves lifted mid-stride, sand kicking up in a fine dark spray, the sea stacks of Reynisfjara rising behind her like something out of myth — this is a horse caught at full commitment, no hesitation in the movement at all. Reynisfjara's basalt columns have their own folklore, trolls turned to stone by the rising sun, and there's a similar sense of drama built into this frame: the black sand, the pale animal, the ancient rock formations holding the horizon steady while everything in the foreground moves. Icelandic horses carry a gait unlike almost any other breed, four-beat and unmistakable even mid-motion, and here that signature movement becomes pure spectacle — power and grace arriving in the same stride, against a backdrop old enough to have earned its own legends.

Story Behind The Image
Two white horses, soaked and unbothered, stand at the base of Skógafoss as the falls dissolve into a wall of pure mist behind them. Icelandic horses have remained essentially unchanged for over a thousand years, isolated long enough that they've become something closer to their own singular form — and here, folded into the same pale, otherworldly register as the water and ice around them, they read as almost elemental themselves. This wasn't shot for drama or scale. It was shot for that strange, dreamlike hush that settles at the base of a waterfall this size, where two horses standing perfectly still stop looking like animals passing through a landscape, and start looking like something the landscape produced.
