Story Behind The Image

A handful of zebra graze along a razor-thin horizon while an entire storm system falls behind them — rain visible as distinct curtains of light, the sky split between near-black cloud and a strange, glowing gap where the sun still finds a way through. The animals themselves are almost incidental, reduced to small dark marks against a sky doing all the real work. That's the point of this collection: the Serengeti's weather isn't backdrop, it's biography, the same rains and droughts that have shaped migration routes for millennia compressed into a single frame. Scale here isn't about the size of the animal in the picture. It's about how small any single creature becomes against the forces it has learned to live within.

Print Sizes & Editions
