Rolo is one of three dominant males in the area, along with Rasta and Kaka. The trio is often seen together, showcasing a strong brotherhood that helps them maintain control over multiple prides. Coalitions like this are common among male lions and give them a greater advantage in defending territory and siring offspring. Lions often use these elevated spots to get a clear view of their territory, scan for prey, or spot potential threats from rival males.

When we initially came across him, he was fast asleep and resting on the top of the rock. However the waiting eventually paid off as you could see the flies had started to cause some restlessness. Initially the wait was to see if he’d get up, however a gust of wind caught his mane just as he caught sight of something in the far distance and that’s when you can’t help but admire the mane and stature of this coalition of three.
