Tracking elephants in Amboseli is unlike anywhere else – the elephants you focus on photographing are known, named, and have their own stories behind them. Generations have been observed, recorded, remembered. From tracking Craig, to spending time with some of the emerging Super Tuskers, you in effect try to trace a linage. You learn where he drinks, who he’s with, how he moves. Every hour in the field builds the narrative. He is not just a subject. He is the story, and one with character.
But photographing elephants — especially tuskers like Craig — is far from simple. Their scale can overwhelm a frame, yet their presence demands intimacy. Light changes fast on the open plains, and compositions shift in seconds as they move through grass, dust, and shadow. Waiting for the right alignment of light, body, and landscape requires persistence, however when scenes like this one unfold I remember why I love trying to capture that experience on camera.
All prints as a standard will come on a white window mount with a dark tulip wood framed with AR glass. Should you prefer to have a different format, please feel free to contact me with further details on the enquiry form.
