Upon the ridge where cold winds run,
Beneath the watchful, rising sun,
A lone puma, bold and free,
Moves with silent mastery.
Through storm and silence dusk and dawn,
He walks the path both fierce and strong.
A ghost, a shadow, proud and free -
The mountain bows; so moves he.
In Torres del Paine, male and female pumas show distinctly different behaviours around humans. Males tend to be more cautious and elusive, preferring remote areas and actively avoiding human activity. They often move quickly across open spaces and adjust their ranges if disturbed. Given this tendency, moments like the one photographed in this instance are few and far between.
As human presence reaches further into once-remote territories, pumas like this one face a changing world. Roads, towns, and trails carve through their ancestral ranges, demanding a new kind of resilience. Over time, many pumas have slowly habituated to human activity — not just out of trust, but necessity — altering their natural rhythms to survive in an increasingly fragmented landscape. This image stands not only as a tribute to the grace and strength of these apex predators, but also as a reminder of our shared responsibility: to tread more lightly, to safeguard the spaces where wildness still lingers, and to ensure that creatures like this magnificent puma continue to move freely.
All prints as a standard will come on a white window mount with a dark tulip wood framed with AR glass. Should you prefer to have a different format, please feel free to contact me with further details on the enquiry form.
